The Spirit Dancer represents canoes designed and used for hundreds of years by First Nations people along the Northwest Coast of B.C. The Spirit Dancer was built at the request of local west coast First Nations. We appreciate working with our local First Nation canoe families.
The Spirit Dancer is just over 39′ long and will seat 16-18 paddlers. It resembles the appearance of wooden dugout canoes, but it has a much more stable hull design, and is ideal for longer ocean voyages.
Traditional canoes carved from cedar logs had a much rounder hull. The Sprit Dancer’s long waterline aids in tracking ability, yet it has sufficient rocker to allow it to maneuver with minimum effort. These are features you will appreciate for any trips you have planned on the coast.
The Spirit Dancer will be approximately 30% of the weight of a similar sized wooden canoe made in the traditional manner. The Dancer is constructed of hand laid fiberglass and is reinforced with Kevlar in areas of high stress and wear.
This canoe features 9 seats, plus the elevated stern seat, allowing for up to 18 paddlers and the possibility of passengers. Gear can be more easily accommodated if you opt for the removable center seats. Please specify when ordering if you would like this option.
Other features include a marine grade structural foam core floor for added stiffness. Lots of positive flotation, and low maintenance gunnels, allowing you maximum time for paddling.
