The Maverick is one of the most versatile models in the Clipper line. The solo
paddler will be impressed with the Maverick’s stability and carrying capacity.
Its 16' 4" length provides a high cruising speed with little effort. Sharp
bow and stern stems cut cleanly through the water and it tracks well with few
correction strokes. The freeboard and capacity will be welcomed by solo paddlers
on wilderness trips and in rough water.
Tandem paddlers will be pleased by the Maverick’s symmetric hull design.
An adult can comfortably paddle from the centre solo seat while small children
sit in the bow and stern. Tandem canoeists can easily carry enough gear for
a weekend of paddling. The Maverick has three bench seats as standard equipment.
A footbrace is included that can be set for either solo or stern paddling. This
allows you to customize the canoe for efficiency.
The hull has 1.5" of rocker. When leaned on its side, the ends will
be out of the water, allowing it to turn easily. The Maverick is available
in 3 layups. Fiberglass - a ribless layup, kevlar® & ultralight kevlar®.
An optional removable wood yoke is available for paddlers wishing to portage
the canoe solo. An expedition style lace on skirt is available for the solo
wilderness paddler. We don’t feel the Maverick is the best choice for
a tandem tripping canoe, consequently we don’t build a skirt for tandem
wilderness tripping.
The Maverick can be paddled solo in three different styles. First is the
Marathon style where the paddler sits on the center seat and uses the adjustable
footbrace. Second the paddler can kneel using the raised center seat. Third,
if you are a traditionalist you may wish to kneel in front of the center seat
facing the stern and lean the canoe over on its side.
Whatever your choice of paddling position is, we are sure that if you select
a Maverick it will be a wise choice that will offer years of paddling pleasure.
